2018 has come to a close and so has our 2018 Core Infrastructure Modernization project.

The final and most impactful phase of our migration involved moving our SQL Server instances and File services to new flash arrays and servers.  The new SQL Server server hardware has double the RAM and CPU capabilities of the previous hardware and the network bandwith is being massively enhanced so those more resource intensive workloads should see a noticeable change.  We have eliminated our SQL Server 2008 R2 instances and migrated all customer workloads to newer versions.  We now host SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017 instances.

We are now running entirely on 14th generation Dell servers and all-flash SAN storage solutions.  With the untapped capacity of our new solution we should be quite comfortable on this platform for years to come.

Our core server infrastructure is running on Windows Server 2016 across the board.  We have found Windows Server 2016 to be an incredibly stable platform both for our core infrastructure and customer workloads.  That said we still have several customers whose workloads are running older versions of Windows.  We want to run a safe, modern, secure environment with the best performance possible for all of our customers.  Microsoft typically only offers support for operating systems for a maximum of 10 years.  With these facts in mind we will soon be kicking off a 2019 Hosting Platform Modernization effort to assist customers on Windows 2008 R2 to transition to newer versions of Windows before support expires at the end of this year.

Watch this blog for more announcement on our 2019 projects including the introduction of Windows Server 2019, SQL Server 2019, and Office 2019 and our customer workload migration projects.
